Drive the future of cancer care: Your support powers lifesaving discoveries at JAX

At The Jackson Laboratory Cancer Center, we are leading the charge in understanding how cancer develops and spreads. Your donation will directly support these efforts to accelerate breakthroughs in personalized cancer care. From early detection to developing treatments that target specific cancer types, your gift ensures our scientists have the resources to pursue bold, high-risk ideas that traditional funding does not always allow.

Your support of the JAX Cancer Center will fuel groundbreaking research into how cancer develops, spreads, and resists treatment, especially in aging populations. By funding innovative projects that explore cancer’s relationship with aging and the immune system, your gift will bring us closer to tailored therapies and improved survival rates for patients with the most difficult-to-treat cancers. Together, we can transform cancer care and offer hope to families worldwide. Join us in driving discoveries that will save lives.

Why your gift matters for cancer research at JAX

Our work is enhanced by people like you. Your contribution fuels pioneering studies, like those of Jennifer Trowbridge, Ph.D., who is exploring how age-related inflammation leads to blood cancers, or Fred Varn, Ph.D., who is revealing why brain tumors resist treatment. Every dollar you give enables us to turn these discoveries into real-world therapies, giving families more time together and saving lives.

Karolina Palucka, M.D., Ph.D.

Professor, Director, JAX Cancer Center, Edison T. Liu Endowed Chair in Cancer Research

I specialize in human immunology with a focus on experimental immunotherapy, including vaccines that target cancer. My career trajectory began in the early 1990s as a young cancer doctor in Warsaw, Poland. I felt that the treatments available to me were insufficient to help my patients. I was using different combinations of chemotherapy and all the standard treatments, but I was not seeing progress or solutions.

One patient in particular, a woman in her thirties with advanced breast cancer, really tipped the balance for me, because I did not feel that I could help her in the way that I wanted or she needed. This experience inspired me to trade my doctor’s coat for a lab coat to explore how to exploit the immune system to fight cancer, but my commitment to cancer patients has never wavered. That patient stays with me today, motivating me to keep researching, keep innovating, keep searching for better solutions for cancer. I hope you will join me in this pursuit.
